Oils Aint Oils

When looking at oils to diffuse in the home, there are two types. Cheap and nasty down right waste of money fragrant synthetic oils and the alternative, pure essential oils. But why do these cheap fragrant oils exist in the bargin shops? I dont know, maybe it is something to do with people wanting a bargin, but what they are actually buying is usually mass produced and imported from overseas at the cheapest rate, the bottle probably costs more than the fragrant oil itself, they are full of synthetic chemicals in an attempt to make a plesant smelling aroma. These oils often leave a strange reside in a burner and the smell often only lasts a few minutes.

Why then to people continue to buy this rubbish? I have no idea, although i have been guilty of a stock of nasty oils, when i was just getting into using them to freshen up the house. Well i have grown up now and found that there is no comparison. There are loads of blended essential oils on the market for those new to aromatherapy so there is really no need to by rubbish. Blends that are pure essential oils are professionally blended to specific formulas from quality pure distilled or cold pressed raw plant material. There is nothing like the smell of orange oil, its just like peeling open a fresh navel orange in winter. I don't know how they even label orange on the fragrant bottles, sometimes it smells like a misxure between washing up liquid and that popular instant drink in the 1970-80's 'tang'. If you can remember that too, your in the old people club like me.

Seriously folks, the difference between the frangrant oil and essential oils is massive, if you didnt waste your money on fragrant oils, you could afford a bottle of the real stuff. A new site www.justessentialoil.com has pure essential oils starting at $6.10 AUD for 10ml of orange oil. If you use 3 drops a day, its going to last you 4-6 months, and cost a few cents per day.

For my buck, the cheap stuff isnt worth the time nor money.

Massage Fairytale? : There are no happy endings here!

G'day,

Well things are really taking off in the clinic lately. We have gotten over the negative, wrongly printed press coverage that named our massage clinic as a massage palour (major sexual implications). We managed to get a correction printed on page three the next week thankfully after an argument with the editor... but I think we may have upset someone who didnt see the correction printed, as we had a few eggs thrown at our shop window. We have enough trouble with phone calls asking for sexual services all hours of the night. Why is it so hard to establish yourself as a legitimate hard working massage clinic when the first thing people ask when making an appointment is "do you do happy endings". Well we certainly do not!

It is getting so bad that the idea of installing answering machine that says Press 1 for massage therapy, Press 2 for Aromatherapy products and essential oils, Press 3 to speak to our manager or Press 4 is you are looking for happing endings, and have that option swiftly connected to the disconnect now action!!!

It would save some much time on our part. Oh well we have put up clearer signs on the clinic window, and it is slowly working. We had one man through the clinic this week who said that his last massage therapist continued to ask him if he wanted extras. Ok so some massage therapists offer, there is certainly a market for sexual massage out there, we turn back 20 times the amount of customer enquiries that want that service than want massage therapy for injury or relaxation. We just don't do it, maybe that should be the the sign above the clinic! "WE JUST DONT DO IT!!", that might get us in trademark trouble with Nike but it might stop the 1130pm phone calls asking what we are wearing and how many girls we have working!

I found this article about massage benefits and exercise, i didnt write it but i wish to share it with the people who need to know a little more about what our service provided, afterall i have shared what we do not do!!

Here is a pic of us providing complementary massages to the delegates at the 2006 Family day care provider workshop. The free massages were a real hit, we enjoyed it too, those hard working people looking after other peoples children all day really needed some massage, most had sore shoulders from lifting up kids all day....no surprises there!

Ask someone their reason for getting a massage and you're likely to hear "because it feels good". We all know that a massage can relieve stress, help to make sore muscles feel better and even reduce anxiety, but can it help us achieve our fitness goals? Research shows that the massage you get to relieve stress can also have a positive effect on your muscle-building capabilities and fitness level.

1. Massage improves circulation and general nutrition of muscles. This appears to be the most valuable fitness-related benefit. Massage is accompanied or followed by an increase interchange of substances between the blood the tissue cells, which increases tissue metabolism. After a muscle is exercised, vital nutrients must be supplied in order for it to increase in size. Massage maximizes the supply of nutrients and oxygen though increased blood flow, which helps the body rebuild itself.

2. Massage improves the range of motion and muscle flexibility. This results in increased power and performance, which helps you work efficiently and with proper intensity to facilitate the body's muscle-building response.

3. Massage helps to shorten recovery time between workouts. Waste products such as lactic and carbonic acid build up in muscles after exercise. Increased circulation to these muscles help to eliminate toxic debris and shorten recovery time.

4. Massage can help prevent over-training. Massage has a relaxing effect on the muscles, as well as a sedative effect on the nervous system. This can prevent over-training syndrome which has limiting effect on muscle building.

5. Massage may aid in fat loss. According to some research, massage may burst the fat capsule in subcutaneous tissue so that the fat exudes and becomes absorbed. In this way, combined with proper nutrition, massage may help in weight loss.

6. Massage helps prevent and even heal injuries. By stretching connective tissue, massage improves circulation to help prevent or break down adhesions. Massage also influences the excretion of certain fluids (nitrogen, phosphorous, sulfur) necessary for tissue repair.
While a massage won't build muscle directly, it helps to facilitate the body's rebuilding phase following a workout and influences muscular growth. Getting a massage is just as important as regular workouts and supportive nutrition for a comprehensive fitness program. Great news for those of us who thought building a great body was all hard work!

Before making an appointment with the first massage therapist you encounter, however, be sure they are a qualified bodywork practitioner. Ask for referrals, professional training information, and certification credentials from a reputable agency, such as the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) or the Massage Association of Australian (MAA).

Unwind life is too short

I have spent days and weeks of communiting to and from work, running errands, taking the kids to school, to the playground, to the grandparents, to find myself at 10 or 11pm justing finding time for myself. Sound familiar? Life is far too short, a friend only in his early 30's was diagnosed with cancer he has taken the attitude that i really admire, he has taken to a a new perspective on life, including extensive physical activity, competing in sports and a strictly healthy diet. He complements this off with massage therapy on a weekly basis to recover and rebalance. We have taken that attitude with our practice and called it "Relaxation for life". I have started spreading the word of this by stopping off at the train station handing out fliers for our massage clinic, i may come across as a pushy salesman trying to offload some fliers for our massage clinic but i see the same look on peoples faces as they step off the same 6:08pm train that i used to catch home from work. Ocassionally i catch somebodies eye, often blodshot staring straight ahead and i hand them a flier, i see the same person in the clinic the next week having their first massage with us, their face when they walk out is transformed. For me this is not just about promoting a business it is about stopping and smelling the roses, taking some time for yourself. Ask yourself, if you were to suddenly fall ill or burnout, who would look after the kids, who would look after your clients at work? Nobody...look after yourself or your no good to anybody, find your nearest massage therapist and book yourself in for some 'me time'.

Be touched by somebody and experience the connection and theraputic benefits of relaxation/swedish massage.
